The first day of the Fashion Alive Madrid event consisted of round tables, in which project partners, runway participants and the creative direction for the event will discuss the developments of the Fashion Alive project, Zero Waste methods and the future of sustainable fashion.

19.00 hs - zero waste fashion masterclass

Gisela Fortuna, lead investigator for Creamodite, delivered a 30-minute interactive presentation of the Zero Waste Fashion Method.

The focus was to engage the audience on the possibilities the method offers in terms of sparing waste-production during the manufacturing process.

Relevant Spanish personalities from leading sustainable fashion companies and brands shared their perspective on the implementation, advances, and challenges in sustainable fashion in Spain.

Martina Gesell, project manager and member of Creamodite presented a brief overview of the project and moderate the debate.
Roberto Liberti, lead investigator of Ucampania, delivered a presentation on their research and achievements on Cultural Heritage and Sustainable Fashion
Ana Cristina Broega, lead investigator of Uminho, explained Uminho’s research and developments on Upcycling and Circular Fashion

INNOVATIVE PATTERNMAKING 💡 Zero Waste Fashion is a design methodology developed by our spanish partner @creamodite that rethinks conventional design and patternmaking to tackle pre-consumer waste production.

Design is no longer based on a body or a mannequin, nor are fashion figures drawn as a source of inspiration.

Rather, the design is based on the optimization of the fabric through the geometric figures that will form the volumetric body grid on which the design will be based, which requires a three-dimensional approach, to visualize the planes fitted on the grid of the human body and transformed into volume.

CIRCULAR FASHION ♻ Inspired by the theme «Power

CIRCULAR FASHION ♻ Inspired by the theme «Powered by change», within the concept of circular fashion, our portuguese partner @design.uminho created a conceptual mini collection based on garments “sleeping” or at the end of their life cycle (post-post consumption disposal) of their PhD students' closets.

The requirements for selecting the pieces to be re-signified were that they somehow have emotional connection with the designers who worked it, in order to be redesigned without somehow undergo a re-design without completely losing their original identity.
