Inspired by the theme «Powered by change», within the concept of circular fashion, Uminho created a conceptual mini collection based on garments from garments “sleeping” in the closet or at the end of their life cycle (post-post consumption disposal) of PhD students.
The requirements for selecting the pieces to be re-signified were that they somehow have emotional connection with the designers who worked it, in order to be redesigned without somehow undergo a re-design without completely losing their original identity.
UMINHO showcased their collection at Design Institute of Guimaraes. Located in the area of Couros – the heart of the tanning and leather goods manufacture in North Portugal, the selected location told a story of transformation: from its original use as a factory, now rehabilitated into a centre for innovation, technology and education.
The performance was planned combining inclusive models, performers and digital engagement strategies to raise awareness about how most garments’ end-of-life cycle is in landfills.
The second leg of the events also offered a small selection of Creamodite and Ucampania’s collections, to engage the audience in the project developments and bring attention to the other project events.
